Good news with a temporary relief - In view of the difficulties faced by Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders in travelling to India regarding re-issuance of OCI cards for certain specified age groups, the Government of India has decided to relax the existing guidelines till 30 June 2020. In this regard, following is the Press Release issued by the Consulate today.

Advisory about the re-issuance of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card from Consulate General of India Chicago

It has been noticed that some OCI cardholders were not allowed to board flights to India as the passport numbers on their OCI cards did not match with their current passport numbers and the OCI cards had not been reissued. To avoid this inconvenience, OCI cardholders are required to note the following guidelines regarding re-issuance of OCI Card:

Up to the Age of 20 years: OCI card holders must get their OCI Card re-issued each time their passport is renewed.

Between 21-50 years: Re-issuance of OCI Card is not required each time the passport is renewed. It is, however, advisable to carry the old passport along with the current passport and the OCI Card as part of abundant caution, but it is not mandatory.

After completion of 50 years of age: OCI Card is required to be re-issued mandatorily only once.

It’s better you don’t issue OCI for younger kids then! Because of the lengthy process and so many documents requirement, so many Indians are giving up traveling to India! You must come up with an easy solution so that people love going back to their country rather than dreading the process of Indian visa / oci!

This really sucks.. this is an alternative method to raise free money

Yes Very Painful process

Then what is the meaning of "lifelong validity "m

Glad that I don't have to renew Everytime I grow beard🙏🙏🙏

It is very hard for parents keep renew for his child OCI. There may be an immediate travel, or something else and every 5 years we have to re apply passport. Y not we carry the old passport and OCI (as it is life long valid stamped). Please consider

Diwali - the festival of light is regarded as the most important festival celebrated by people from India. It is an ancient festival that is celebrated over the span of 5 days. This year it is being celebrated starting Oct 25th through Oct 29th with Oct 27th as the main Diwali Day. It spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. Its celebration includes millions of lights shining on housetops, outside doors and windows, in the communities and countries where it is observed. The festival creates a magical and radiant effect in the atmosphere. Everybody is in a joy and festive mood.

It is an official holiday in Fiji, Guyana, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. It unites everyone and is celebrated by all throughout India and many countries. As a community being far away from India in USA, people of Indian origin use this opportunity to celebrate Diwali as a family as well to convey the meaning and significance of Diwali to their future generations.

The exchange of sweets and the explosion of fireworks customarily accompany the celebration of the festival. Diwali is an occasion for cheerfulness and togetherness. This is that time of the year when people of all age take part in its celebration. Diwali also is the beginning of New Year for a lot of communities and businesses in India.

ICO would like to wish everyone a very Happy Diwali and Prosperous New Year.
